“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
The first commandment was to Love the Lord our God, we love because he first loved us. When we are able to believe that and receive His Love, then we can love Him in return. We believe because he drew us to him and persuaded us of who He was.
Out of the correct belief everything else will effortlessly be aligned by His loving hand as he continues to draw us deeper into relationship with him as he continuously unveils the truth in those places where lies are hindering us walking in the fullness of what he has for us.
The second was to Love your neighbor as your self. This is not something we can do ourselves, this is not a to do list
1. Love God
2. Love Neighbor
We love God because we see the truth of How much he loved us, we see his relentless pursuit of us. We love our neighbor out of the overflow of His love for us. Out of HIS love not our own.
The fruit of the spirit is love, we don’t manifest the fruit we simply bear it. We bear it believing in Christ and his finished work.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
English Standard Version 1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Love is from God we can’t love one other through our own strength or ability, we were never intended too. We are to love others as ourself, to love ourself we must understand love and have received that Love from God. Love was made known to us through Jesus, so that we could live through Him, and not our own strength and ability. In this is LOVE, not that we have loved God but that He LOVED us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
It’s about believing not making ourselves manifest the fruit of Love for the benefit of our neighbor, we can never do it, we weren’t created to do it. We were created to see the good works of Love in Jesus and through experiencing that Love, Love manifests in our lives, Love that is the fruit of His spirit that is living in us, that abides in us continuously manifesting out of us effortlessly and we simply bear it.
1 John 2:6
the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
This isn’t a commandment it’s the good news of what is possible in relationship with him.
1 John 3:24
The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
He abides in us by His spirit. That is our proof. He doesn’t leave us. Again this isn’t a to do list, it’s showing you that we can tell we are abiding in Him when we see the Love overflowing onto ourselves and others.
Abide in and of itself means to remain, to stay, wait, continue, dwell. We abide when we remain in the mindset that God is the one who loved us and through Him alone will the fruit manifest in us. He is the good shepherd and our caretaker and provider in all situations. God’s spirit in us is our proof that he is abiding in us and all we need to do is believe that He, the one who began this good work in us will bring it to completion. When my mind is at rest in the realization of His finished work, Love flows effortlessly out of me. We can not love (respect, cherish, see as God does), have joy, or peace or patience or kindness or goodness or gentleness or self disciple by our own hands. These are all God’s role and pleasure to manifest in our lives. The minute we believe it is our job to bring forth this fruit we are no longer abiding in the beautiful truth of the gospel.
Likewise, not experiencing these in all areas of our lives does not speak to us as if we are lacking. We are not yet perfected in our minds and there are areas where we are still struggling. It is in those areas we can see the beautiful work he is doing in our lives because He so loves us. I am a beautiful work in progress in Daddy’s loving hands. It is not our need or job to take on those areas, we need only to be open to Him showing us those areas and revealing to us where he is already healing us and moving us into further wholeness. (We are all already whole, but we don’t already believe it in all areas.)
God thank you that your work is to bring forth the fruit and mine is simply to bear it as I rest in you.
