Pistes(noun) vs. Pisteuo(verb)

Faith and Belief

Today I was digging in a bit more into Faith vs. Belief and here is some of my findings.  I hope it blesses you as much as it did me.

Faith  Is God’s Divine Persuasion

Belief is our actions based on God’s Persuasion of us (Faith)

Pistis (Faith) is a noun, not a verb, it is not something that we do.  The verb form is pisteuó and is translated “believe.” The meaning is to trust in and rely on. To believe is something we do, but pistis or faith is not the act of believing but the things that are believed.

Faith is God’s Divine Persuasion unto belief where we can fully trust in, rely on, and act on what he has revealed to us.

It is from the root word pith, meaning “persuade, be persuaded” – persuasion (be persuaded, come to trust); faith

Faith is always a gift from God and never something that can be produced by people. Faith (pistis) is a fruit of the Spirit in us. (Galatians 5:22)

God’s Divine persuasion is distinct from human belief yet it involves it. The Lord continuously births faith (or continual persuades us of his truths) by His Holy Spirit inside of us.

Pistis in secular antiquity referred to a guarantee (warranty) In Scripture faith is God’s warranty to us certifying that the revelation He in birthed will come to pass. It’s our Hope of things unseen. He never stops convincing us and speaking His truth to us.

Pistis is also used collectively of all the times God has revealed (persuaded) us of His will.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Faith comes from spiritual hearing and spiritual hearing through the rhema (divine utterance) of Christ.

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that precedes out of the mouth of God. John 6:63

The Holy Spirit in us speaks the truth about who He is and who We are.

Romans 14:23 Whatever is not of Faith is sin.

If we disagree with what he is persuading us of (truth), if we can not yet walk in the belief of the truths he is showing us, that is sin.  We need to repent, or simply we need a change of mind.

Heb 11:6: “And without faith(4102/pistis) it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe (pisteuó) that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him”

God is not pleased when we do not believe the truth about who we are and who he is. Why?  Because he is an amazingly good Daddy and he wants us free and to be free from sin and partake in all the goodness he has for us we have to believe His truths.

Thayer’s Definition of Belief is Conviction of the truth, belief, trust and holy fervor born of faith and conjoined with it. It is moral conviction, especially reliance upon Christ for salvation/sozo: save, heal, deliver, protect, preserve, do well, be made whole, prosper.

When we believe that Christ has saved us, we stand on the truths that we are saved, healed, delivered, protected, preserved, will do well, are made whole, and we will prosper.

“Belief” is agreement that something is true. “Faith” starts there. But then “faith” becomes reliance and surrender to what we know is true. I not only see the Truth, agree that it is the Truth, but I then make the choice to give myself to it. That is the action, or works.

I believe what he has persuaded me of and I act from that. For example he says that all my sins have been forgiven, I believe him therefore I act on that belief that I have no sins that are unforgiven. My actions represent my belief.

I pray that we will each get to the place where we can walk and act confidently by the Faith God has birthed in us that we believe.
