Sowing and Reaping

Nothing to Do with Money

For weeks I’ve been stuck on this topic of sowing and reaping, I just knew there was something there in my belief that just wasn’t lining up to the real nature of the Daddy that I am getting to know more intimately. The entire karma theology of you reap what you sow was leaving me a little unsettled. I had believed in the past that it had to do mainly with money. For example I use to believe that if I sowed my tithe into my local church I would be blessed. Therefore the opposite thinking of that was if I didn’t I would be cursed, thus ensuing fear in my life. (There are so many things wrong with that belief I can’t go into them now but please be assured that God is not going to curse you and fear is never from him. His perfect love casts out fear. If you want more you can check out this article by Paul Ellis.)

I will say that recently, I have learned that the Tithe is not part of the New Covenant, therefore we are no longer required to tithe. Now I do not believe that we are not called to give, but I believe that giving in the New Covenant is different. I believe it is what you purpose in your heart, the what, when, and where the Holy Spirit directs you to. (Let me tell you that when you walk this way the Holy Spirit isn’t always directing you to give money either.) People who are fearful of this type of thinking as I was struggle to trust Daddy for there provision, they are believing that they are the ones that are the providers. Hence if I tithe then God will bless me, if I do this then he will do that. Beloved God blesses us because we are his kiddos, not because of something you did or didn’t do. That will have to be left for another day, but I would encourage you to start digging into it yourself if you believe you must be tithing. (Here are some resources on New Covenant tithing if you are interested by Bertie Brits and here are some by Paul White.)

Back to sowing and reaping, a few weeks ago I started to try and find different opinions of what it meant, I tried to listen to different teachings but something would always interrupt me or keep me from finishing, until this morning. I was just sitting out on my front porch enjoying some nice May weather, listening to the birds drinking my coffee and spending time just talking to Daddy. I was telling him things that I wish I would have a better understanding of and one of these was sowing and reaping.

Instantly I heard him say, “I’ll show you,” and he did, he began to break it down for me step by step.

After he had revealed to me what it really meant he took me into his word and showed me all the verses that backed up what he just revealed. Then he told me to go and write this, so here we are. Right now I pray that what I type are his words alone, nothing added, nothing subtracted and that this message would take root in your heart and bring freedom to those who need it, that you would be able to embrace the truth of his goodness and life.IMG_7704

Sowing and Reaping was never about money it was about God’s gift to us. You reap what you sow brings on a new meaning when you look at it in the light he intended. If you sow Grace, New Covenant belief that God did it all for you, you will reap his abundant Zoe life which brings peace, joy, and love. (John 10:10) If you sow Old Covenant Rules and Regulations, believing there is something left you must do, or have to do, you reap what the Old Covenant produces death, destruction, and condemnation. (Romans 4:15, 2 Cor 3)

Let’s look at the players in this arena:

SEED: The seed is Jesus, the Logos (God’s revelation of himself to us through Jesus). 1 Peter 1:23, speaks of Jesus the imperishable seed, the Logos. (Gal 3:16, Genesis 3:15)There are many verses that speak of this I will only mention a few but I encourage you to do a search under Jesus as the seed to find more.

Soil: We are the soil, the soils only job is to receive the seed.

Sower: The Holy Spirit, it is only through him do we come to a revelation of who Daddy is. It is never from our own work.

Harvest: can very dependent upon the seed received, either we believe in New Covenant Grace that there is nothing left for us to do, or Old Covenant belief that there are laws, rules, and regulations.

There are two systems, two ways we can choose to follow the choice is ours, hence you reap what you sow. This means what you choose to believe determines your fruit.

Reaping is the harvest of the crop that was planted. There are two different crops that can be produced, one brings life the other death.
Deuteronomy 22:9 Don’t sow two kinds of seed in your vineyard otherwise all the seed becomes defiled.

One thing that I have come to realize is that there are many that sow both seeds, law and grace. This verse above is talking about just that. Sowing both the seed of grace, the belief that God has done it all but mixing in the seed of Law, belief that we still have stuff left we must do to earn or receive Daddy’s abundance is a no no. Here we are being warned of the mixing of the two, which we can see then defiles all the seed. Why? Because if you put yourself under any portion of the Law you are then required to follow ALL of it, hence defiling Grace. (James 2:10) If you checked out the scriptures above you know what the Law brings, death. To many Christians are stuck under this religious mindset that they have to do to earn. If I serve enough, if I give enough, if I pray enough, if I fast enough, not realizing that none of these things matter to God, it is not about what we do, it is entirely about Whose we are. Religion is what man thinks he can or must do for God, Christianity through the lens of Grace is What God did for man. Now I’m not saying these things will not manifest out of our true identity but many of us myself included have or are doing it out of our own strength and feelings of obligation. IF you are exhausted or serving in a way that isn’t your joy this is a great clue.

Galatians 6:7-8
God is not mocked for whatever he sows this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

God is not mocked, mock means sneer at, disdain, turn up the nose as a sign of contempt, contemptuously reject. (Romans 8:2-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21) Jesus came to fulfill the Law and set us free from the law of sin and death. He completed it all but when we turn around and say something like I have to tithe for God to bless me, or I must attend church for Gods favor to be on me, or I have to fast to be able to hear God, these are all works of the flesh. These are all things that are dependent on you, flesh focused. It’s all about what you do and not what Jesus has done, not on the free gift of Grace, our focus is on the flesh and not on the indwelling of the spirit within us. Thus you have turned your nose up at the gift God has placed in front of you, Grace. God isn’t happy when we insist on doing things for ourselves, now don’t hear me that he is up in heaven mad at you. That is not true, he loves you very much and wants you to walk in the fullness and freedom of all he has for you. If your child was being lead down a path of destruction by an enemy to his/her death would you be upset at the child or at the enemy. Would you stand by silently and just watch? Daddy isn’t upset at you, he’s wants you to get it, he wants you to walk in all he has for you, his zoe life. He’s for you.

If you are one like I was that thinks that there is stuff you must do to earn his favor, for him to love you, I get it, I do. I’ve been there, and frankly that is not the Good New of the true gospel. It’s exhausting and I believe that he wants more for you than that just like he does for me. Each day he is revealing more of that death thinking and freeing me from it, not because of something I’m doing but simply because he loves me. If this is hard for you to hear ask him to show you why, ask him to persuade you of his truth. He will, he is a great persuader. I firmly believe he will persuade you in such a way that you will be able to believe it just as he did for me. Don’t beat yourself up trying to get it, just trust him to lead you there in his perfect timing. He will because you are his beloved.

I’ll end this here today but there will have to be a Part 2, I have to much left that he has shown me. Next time I will focus on what Zoe life is, what it means for Jesus to be the bread, who supplies the seed and look more into the revelation that we are no longer required to do anything but receive his glorious truths. We will be looking deeper into 2 Corinthians 9:10-11, 1 Corinthians 13:3, and John 6:48.

Daddy I pray blessing and peace and honor over each of those reading this. I pray that your seed planted today by your Holy Spirit would fall on soil ready to receive and not be cast aside. That you would speak to each heart reading this and encourage them with your truth right now where they are at on this journey. Blessings.
